You asked for it so i’m going to go ahead and do it. I’m going to start an Etsy shop from scratch and document it all with weekly updates on my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@jayswayworks).
• I will be 100% transparent, and you will see everything, including ad spend, etc.. all the juicy data you all love to post about and ask about
• YOU get to see first-hand the entire process
• I will document/record my research, design, etc..
• YOU get to come along for the ride and hopefully gain some valuable knowledge along the way
You’ll see the real inside scoop and how long it actually takes to make money, if at all… All from an over-the-shoulder perspective which I think will be worth far more than most Etsy courses out there.
I will be out of pocket on this and will also be spending MY time on it, not yours... So to help out, I have set up this site for OPTIONAL donations one-time, or set up a monthly donation of as low as $1 per month - You get to decide what you think is fair for my knowledge, time & associated costs while the shop presumably makes zero dollars for the first few months as usual.
After much deliberation, and considering the timelines, my partner Stacey and I have decided to practice what I’ve been preaching, which is “doing something in a niche that we’re passionate about or at least know SOMETHING about”, and not just going in totally blind. Gotta "Walk the Talk", right?
We intend to be in Belize by the end of the year and want to give back in ways we know how. And we want to be able to see our contributions at work with our own eyes. That said, we’ve decided to go with a beachy / island themed shop that combines my love for fishing and hers for snorkeling with our affinity for marine life, and the beauty of nature both on land and underwater…. And of course, the “island life”
We will be giving a portion of the proceeds from this shop to Fragments of Hope, Belize (see more here: https://www.facebook.com/FragmentsofHopeBelize/).
It just makes sense, keeps us vested and will earnestly make us feel good about all of it - from walking you all through this step-by-step for the good and the bad, to really giving back to not just you all, but to helping make the world a better place by helping to protect the Belize Barrier Reef and its inhabitants. It's the 2nd largest reef in the world.
We now begin the in-depth search through potential shop names, domain names and trademarks - fun times! haha
As previously mentioned, we’ve set up this Sellfy account as there will be costs associated for us… These costs include, but aren’t limited to:
• listing fees
• mockups
• design (if there’s anything we don’t actually do ourselves, like potential collabs, etc.)
• copyrights
• domain registrations & eventual hosting fees
• trademark fees
• various subscriptions (like eRank, Sale Samurai, Printify, Placeit, stock vectors, etc..)
• Etsy Ads
• Etsy fees
This whole project will be more valuable for some of you than many of the courses out there, and YOU get to decide how much you want to pay (if anything), based on how much value you find in what we’re doing.
Stacey had a shop that COVID killed (https://www.etsy.com/shop/OceanLocksHair) that she just reopened to get rid of inventory as we prepare to leave Canada. It was for custom-dyed hair extensions with a portion of profits going to the Belize Barrier Reef system, so this new project will (hopefully) allow us to resume giving back.
We only offer monthly memberships at the moment, but if you want to make a one-time donation, you can just subscribe and then cancel before the next month. It's really easy to cancel :)
Thanks in advance for any and all support!
Love you all! --jay
